The Middle East is developing into one of the leading markets for the helicopter industry with a growing demand for the latest technologies and services to address the specific requirements of the civil, public, defence and paramilitary sectors. The region has witnessed a large rise in expenditure on helicopter technology including military upgrades reflecting the strong economic growth in the Middle East.

"The World" is a collection of man-made islands resembling the shapes of the continents of the world. Located off the coast of Dubai, the project consists of 300 small private artificial islands under four categories-private homes, estate homes, dream resorts and community islands. Helicopters become more relevant with this project as the transportations means between the islands will be exclusive by air or water.

The three palm shaped islands being constructed off the coastline of Dubai, will feature over 100 luxury Hotels, exclusive residential villas and apartments, marinas and water theme parks, restaurants, shopping malls, sports facilities and health spas. These projects will also boost the importance of helicopters as they will fulfill the requirements of residents and tourists for charter operations, private ownership and ensure quick and easy access for emergency and law enforcement services when needed.

Helicopters are becoming increasingly important in the defense sector. The current security situation with its focus on anti terrorist operations has highlighted the advantages of the helicopters and its multi-role capabilities. Proposed new acquisition programmes  particularly from the Gulf Co–operation council (GCC) countries along with orders for add-on features and upgrades will ensure the industry benefits from lucrative opportunities in the region.

The growth of the civil sector in the region spurred on by demand from the commercial operators, private buyers, emergency  services and associated products and support organizations for the latest technologies in fueling the rapid development in the helicopter industry in the Middle East.

With the continuous construction of major project both onshore and offshore, congestion on the roads has led to a growing demand for a quicker mode of transport. In this scenario, Helicopters are expected to play a crucial role in private and corporate business transfers.
